2012 Awards

Well to say that 2012 has been a busy year so far is an understatement! The first four months of the year have been jam packed with weddings, and with two more months of weddings to go, I still have plenty of time to create some timeless photographs for my couples. Recently I entered some of my work into the Victorian Professional Photography Awards and was fortunate enough to be awarded a Silver with Distinction for the image below. It actually turned out to be the highest scoring image that I’ve ever received an award for, so I was pretty happy about that! Having spent two solid weeks working on the image, it just proved to me that hard work does pay off! The national awards are next on the agenda. So fingers crossed that I pick up another award there!

Oh, and a quick tip for anyone getting married in Geelong over the Winter months, don’t forget that it gets dark early, so when planning your wedding photography, don’t forget to allow for the early loss of light!!

Skye & Kieran

Skye and Kieran were recently married at the Deakin Chapel in Geelong. A beautiful Summers day awaited the bride as she arrived to the service that was being officiated by Tony Bugden from Ceremonies of Choice. Anyone looking to find a quality celebrant should give Tony a call!. Skye was dressed in an amazing gown which came from Brides of Melbourne. The beauty of being a wedding photographer in Geelong is that we can travel short distances and have such different backgrounds. So we were able to fit a few different looking locations in for the couples wedding photographs before heading off to Ripples for the reception.

Megan & Darren

It’s not often that you get to photograph a wedding of a long time friend, but recently I was honoured to be able to photograph the wedding of Megan and Darren. Many brides out there know Megan from her business, that blonde chick. Megan has created some stunning hair designs for other brides over the years, so it was fitting that she did her own hair on her wedding day! She did leave her make up though to another long time friend, Emma from Blush Make Up Artistry. The service took place at Barwon Grange in Newtown, Geelong and Megan arrived wearing a beautiful wedding gown made by the girls at Pearls and Roses. A nice overcast Summers day gave us perfect light for our location photography, which included the Geelong Waterfront. After a bit of fun on location, we headed back to Lyndon Grove for the reception.

Thank you Megan and Darren for choosing me to be your wedding photographer! I had an awesome day working with the two of you!!

Anthea & Jason

It may have been a rainy Summers day on Anthea and Jason’s wedding day, but we all still had a great time! Fortunately, their service and reception was held at Bellarine Estate, so even as the rain came down, we were still able to create stunning images indoors. Once the rain eased, we jumped into the vines and even managed to head out to another location for some more wedding photography. The weather in Geelong the last couple of years has really kept wedding photographers on their toes! Anthea wore a stunning Raffaele Ciuca wedding gown and her bouquet was from Smellies flowers.

Booking Your Wedding

Even though we’re only two months into 2012, if you are getting married in Summer of 2012/13 and haven’t booked a photographer as yet, then I’d advise you to start looking! Over the past few years, I’ve noticed that couples will generally start looking to book their Wedding photographer about 6 months prior to their day. But over the past couple of months, there seems to be a huge change, and couples have been enquiring for wedding dates upto two years in advance! I’m not sure whether this is the same all around, but I am now booking 2013 dates. December 2012 is almost completely booked and I’ve been recieving enquiries, and bookings, for November 2013! Now whether this is something that’s just occuring in Geelong, or whether it’s a change in the photographic and wedding industry in general, I’m not sure. But the best advise I can give anyone that’s looking to book Photography By Riccardo for their wedding day is to send an enquiry through with regards to your wedding date as soon as you decide so I can check availability. Demand is becoming great and unfortunately I am unable to hold wedding dates without the appropriate paperwork and retainer being submitted!

Danielle & Glenn

Danielle & Glen were recently married at St. Peter & Pauls Church in Geelong. We had a bit of a windy day, but this can sometimes work in the favour of an experienced wedding photographer. Fortunately, Danielle’s lovely gown from Crocé & Colosimo also came with a lovely veil, so I was able to use that to my advantage in some of her location photos. Of course, what would a wedding be without Hot Rods!! Special thanks to the boys at Dr. Rod Hot Rods! We used a few different locations around the Geelong waterfront for Glen & Danielle’s photography finally ending up with their reception at Capri Receptions.

Tahnée & Brendan

The beautiful Barwon Park Mansion in Whinchelsea was the setting for Tahnée and Brendans wedding. The classic style of Tahnée’s wedding dress made for some stunning wedding photography. I wish we had a mansion like this closer to Geelong so I could take all my brides there!! Special thanks goes to Megan from That Blonde Chick for amazing hair (as always) and to Bernice Fashion who did a wonderful job with Tahnées dress. I am so proud of these images as I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to photograph a wonderful couple in a stunning location. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I have enjoyed working on them.

Wishing all my clients and readers of this blog, a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2012. It has been an honour to be either your wedding photographer or your family portrait photographer this year. I have been lucky enough to be able to photograph not only here in Geelong, but also in many other locations over the past year and I have enjoyed every minute!

Chelsea & Karl

The beautiful summer’s day and ample time for their wedding photography made for a perfect wedding day for Chelsea and Karl. The Perth couple had previously visited Geelong and loved the Geelong Waterfront so much, they decided to use it for the most important day of their lives. Four Points by Sheraton was the venue for their service and then it was off for their location photos. Whilst the bridal party were enjoying themselves, we were approached by a gentleman who kindly enough offered us the chance to photograph in front of a very special mural in the government building. The mural depicts the history of Geelong. Obviously we jumped at the chance! After a quick photo shoot, we were back in the limousine, provided by Aspire Limousines Melbourne and back to the Sheraton for the reception. Special thanks goes to Cornerworks Geelong who did Chelsea’s hair, Smellies Flowers for Chelsea and the bridesmaids floral arrangement, and to Igby Production for the table centrepieces. And of course, it goes without saying, a big thank you to Chelsea and Karl for choosing me as their wedding photographer!

Anisia & Jason

A last minute change meant that Jason and Anisia’s original plans of marrying at Werribee Mansion had to be changed to the Werribee Zoo. But a beautiful spring day meant that the outdoor setting was enjoyed by all. Anisia’s hair was beautifully designed by Soho whilst the girls at Blush took care of her make up. Her dress was from Geelong Bridal House. After a short trip back into Geelong, we took advantage of the lovely weather and chose the Geelong Waterfront for the first part of their wedding photography. A little birdie told earlier in the day that Anisia really wanted bluestone to be part of her wedding photos. So, to make up for the fact that we were unable to photograph at the Mansion, we decided to use another of Geelong’s old buildings as a backdrop to our second location. Finally, what better place to finish the perfect day than Capri Receptions where Jason and Anisia joined their family and friends to dance and party the night away. Thank you both for choosing me to be your wedding photographer and to be part of your special day!!
